Books and magazines can be picked up and returned during our regular monthly meetings.
We meet in the McNabb Community Centre 180 Percy Street, Ottawa ON at 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month from October to June. However, our September meeting will be on August 31st.

This book is a complete manual for the beginner through to the advanced embroiderer. More than 1300 step by step colour photographs of every stitch you will ever need. These stitches are very useful to embellish your smocked items. For example you will find a variety of ways to use the blanket stitch. This stitch is widely used for trimming a garment such as collars and sleeves. Another example is ribbon, which is used in embroidery with many examples in this book. You can borrow this very useful embroidery book from our Ottawa Smockers Guild library.
Even though Australian Smocking and Embroidery magazines are no longer published, we have many copies and a full index of this much loved and treasured magazine; indeed they have become collectors items. The magazine is renowned worldwide for its outstanding world class photography, full size pattern sheets and step- by-step colour photographs and instructions. Each issue features inspiring stories from smockers around the world along with easy to follow, illustrated instructions to help you complete each project.
This book has 48 smocking designs in it all shown in color and lots of them are smocked on florals, plaids, ginghams and checks. Talk about inspiration! The colors are wonderful and the garments are gorgeous. There are tips on how to choose your colors, ideas for using plain inserts with floral fabric, help with smocking plaids and the best tip ever for smocking with stripes and how to avoid the moire look on your pleating.
Australian Smocking and Embroidery presents new designs in a collection devoted purely to the bishop. Bishops are much loved by smockers and this book is sure to delight with a wonderful variety of designs, from newborn to six years including full patterns and instructions for each garment. The step by step photographs include preparation and pleating, smocking and embroidery, heirloom techniques and construction.
